Jazz artist Charlie Mingus photo with his quote. I saw Mingus perform while I was in college. I don't remember the club. I looked around at the patrons and most were young college-age white people. I wondered if they really knew who Charlie Mingus was, what his work was like. A website wrote about the racism he experienced. All Black musicians did and continue to. I can see the singer musician of this trio but I don't remember his name. Minus and company's performance was memorable.
This quote came to mind when I was thinking about how could I help other people when neither they nor I know how. Is it limited to just words? Is it limited to just deeds? Can it be a smile when all else seems to fail? The quiet that Nature gives us, the space, for miles out, up and down where we can release breath with a kind thought may be enough.
